Hydrogenated water, the most cost-effective treatment available

"You should try to make your body more alkaline."

99% of the molecules in your body are water. In other words, the water you drink should be of the highest quality. However, most people don't know what good water is for their bodies. Water is surrounded by myths and misunderstandings, as well as many technical terms that few of us fully understand.

                            Variations of hydrogen generators

It is the redox properties of hydrogen that have proven to be the main advantages of using electrically treated water. Currently, there are two types of hydrogen H2 (or other hydrogen-containing molecules) increasing machines/technologies on the market.

One technology is referred to as ionizing machines (alkalizing machines) and the other is hydrogen water generators.

                            • Ionizing machines store alkaline water (basic water) with a pH generally between 8 and 11.

                            • Conversely, hydrogen water generators increase the concentration of hydrogen (H2) in drinking water without changing the pH (or very little).

The more hydrogen molecules there are in water, the greater the antioxidant effect. This is measured in relative hydrogen, rH2.

Purchasing ionization machines is unnecessarily expensive

Newer hydrogen water generators provide more antioxidants (measured as rH2) than alkaline ionizing machines. It makes more sense to combine a good water filter with a professional hydrogen water generator (which should have a PEM membrane or equivalent). This will give you better and healthier water. In short, cheaper and better.

                            Acid/base in brief

Whether a liquid is considered acidic or basic (alkaline) is determined by measuring the ratio of H+ (or more precisely the molecule formed in water H3O+) to OH-. If there is an excess of OH-, the water is said to be basic.

                            • If there is an excess of H+, the solution is acidic and the pH is between 1 and 7.

                            • If there is an excess of OH-, the solution is basic/alkaline and the pH is between 7 and 14.

                            • The solution is neutral when the pH is 7.

                            L'abréviation pH ("potentiel d’hydrogène")

Hydrogen potential (or potentia hydrogenii), refers to the amount of hydrogen in the form of H+ ions present in the liquid. When there is a balance of water ions in the body, the blood will be slightly alkaline (pH 7.35-45), and the fluids in the cells will have a little more variation (normally slightly acidic with an intracellular pH around 7).

Proper pH helps maintain a vital balance between electrically charged particles by maintaining sodium/potassium and magnesium/calcium ion ratios.

Misconceptions of the beneficial effects of drinking alkaline water

Much has been written about the alleged health benefits of drinking alkaline water and the importance of not acidifying the body. The latter is partly correct, but the method is wrong.

The body should be in chemical balance and have an excess of free electrons, which can counteract harmful/excessive oxidation. This can be measured biochemically with the presence of hydrogen (rH2 = relative hydrogen or aka rH2 Score).

Explanatory models and claims abound, but they are not consistent with basic biochemistry. When alkaline water (which contains excess OH- ions) enters the stomach, the ions are immediately neutralized by stomach acid. In the best case scenario, this is of no consequence to the body's pH balance. However, it is possible that the addition of a base will contribute to a temporary reduction in stomach acid, which is necessary to digest the food you eat. This is very unfortunate, as it is known that people with low stomach acid are often prone to irritable bowel syndrome, food intolerances and allergies.

Acid/base: a simple matter of balance

Facts and misinformation are mixed together, and the impression is created that alkaline water produced by electrolysis or by adding alkalizing substances is particularly beneficial to health. This is a false conclusion. Observing nature, one quickly realizes that in places where the soil and water are highly alkaline (basic), few plants and animal life thrive and survive. There are good reasons for this, let's look at the chemistry.

The most common electrolysis devices (called ionization devices) split water (H2O) and/or basic minerals into OH- (basic) and H3O+ (acidic) ions. Ions are electrically charged particles.

The result is that drinking water has a temporary excess of OH- ions, while wastewater has an excess of H3O+ and is therefore acidic by definition. The drinking water thus becomes alkaline, with a surplus of OH- ions in the water you drink and a deficit of H+ or H3O+ (to be precise). This is a simplified representation because there are also different groups of molecules formed such as H30- and temporary H- ions, as well as some H2 (hydrogen gas).

                            Clarico-Image-Text

Basic water with an excess of OH- is wrongly presented as an antioxidant.

The hydroxide ion (OH-) cannot be reduced as an antioxidant, but can form water (H2O) with H3O+. A redox reaction is a chemical reaction in which one substance is reduced (gains an electron) and another oxidized (loses an electron). If you remove an electron from the hydroxide ion (as in a classic redox reaction), you end up with a hydroxyl radical (OH), which is a powerful and destructive oxidant.  Fortunately, this is not what happens in pure water, although the molecules are split by electrolysis.

                            ORP - oxidation-reduction potential

ORP measurements are not a reliable indicator of the reduction potential of water if only the ORP is considered. This is because the addition of alkalizing substances can lead to a decrease in ORP (negative), without increasing the antioxidant capacity (reduction potential).

Looking at the relationship between pH and ORP in pure water, one can also calculate relative hydrogen, expressed as rH2. The rH2 number gives a better picture of the actual reducing capacity or antioxidant potential of water. The reason is that the rH2 measurement indicates how many negatively charged free electrons there are in water that can reoxidize an oxidant. That is, give up an electron and render an oxidant harmless.

Hydrogen, as in H2, has two "free" electrons (negatively charged particles) and is therefore a very effective antioxidant. The measurement of relative hydrogen uses a scale of 0 to 42, where 0 is strongly reducing (has a large amount of hydrogen and begins to separate hydrogen gas) and 42 is oxidizing (excess oxygen and little hydrogen). Neutral water (rH2) has a neutrality point of 28. This means that it is neither an antioxidant nor an oxidant.

Examples of correlations between pH, ORP and rH2

The numbers are not meant to be exact and are mostly arithmetic examples, but the "trends" are correct.

Negative numbers are off the scale and indicate a temporary state where hydrogen bubbles form in the water. Artificial alkaline water is defined as spring water containing alkalizing minerals or sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or potassium hydroxide (KOH) which are strong oxidizers and are strongly discouraged. Hydrogen gas will be reduced by oxygen, which is why hydrogenated water is most effective when produced. If it is on a good quality closed container and the container is full, the quality of the water will be maintained longer (depending on the container and the material, minimum 1 day). Note that when the water is weakly acidic (due to a very low solids content (TDS)), the redox capacity (antioxidant action) is better!

                            Hydrogenated water has essential properties

The most important thing is to hydrate our cells. Hydrating means adding hydrogen, which is essential for cell function and metabolism. Molecular hydrogen or hydrogen gas (H2) acts as an antioxidant and can give up an electron (reduce an oxidant). In relative terms, there is more "free" hydrogen and thus a real antioxidant potential (measured as rH2) in weakly acidic water than in alkaline water if the redox potential (ORP) is equal. The presence of hydrogen gas can also be measured in ppb (parts per billion), and in hydrogen balanced water it is usually between 1100 and 1600 ppb (or 11-16 ppm, parts per million).

What is TDS, and what does it say about water quality?

The abbreviation comes from "total dissolved solids". TDS can often consist of positively charged ions of calcium(Ca+), magnesium(Mg+), sodium(Na+) and potassium(K+) and negatively charged ions of carbonate(CO32-), hydrogen carbonate(HCO3-), chloride(Cl-), sulfate(SO2-) and nitrate(NO3-). In addition, there may be other substances that we don't want in the water. These can be toxins, humus, etc.

Simply put, many of these substances will "occupy" hydrogen, so there will be less hydrogen to hydrate proteins, etc. in the cells. Batteries need perfectly clean water, with low TDS, to function at their best without leakage and without the water molecules reacting with metals in normal water. Simply put, our cells also act like batteries. If we use water that has a low TDS (low material content), it is easier to regulate cell functions.

In addition, it is easier for cells to produce EZ water or "gelatinous" structured cell water from high charge, low TDS water.

Depletions can also occur in the body, which we call calcifications and which we also see in showers and pipes where the water contains too much calcium. For special purposes, you can use water with an even lower TDS (reverse osmosis or distilled water). Water that is weakly acidic and has a low TDS has a greater ability to dissolve minerals and hydrate than water whose molecules are bound to different substances.

You should try to make your body more alkaline.

Have you ever heard this phrase or something similar? Have you also heard that you need to eat alkalizing foods to make your blood less acidic?

First of all, so-called "alkaline" diets, consisting of lots of vegetables and raw vegetables, have not been shown to change the pH of the blood or other parts of the body. There is no scientific basis for such a claim. We do not want to be too acidic or alkaline, we want to be in balance. This is primarily regulated by the lungs and kidneys as part of the body's pH buffer system. Excessive protein consumption produces excess uric acid which the body must then eliminate (with water via the kidneys).

In general, we are not trying to make the body alkaline, but to help it maintain a natural and correct acid/base balance. This is why we should drink water that is almost neutral (pH < 7). Some substances and foods have a low rH2 value, such as vitamin C and some fermented vegetables, etc. They therefore have redox properties and act as antioxidants.

Ionized alkaline water mixed with neutral hydrogenated water

                            • Alkaline water can help reduce stomach acidity, which is unfavorable for digestion

                            • Alkaline water does not cure cancer, reduce the risk of heart disease or prevent osteoporosis.

                            • Neutral water contains more available hydrogen, which is necessary for cell hydration.

                            • Pure neutral water is weakly acidic and can oppose the formation of crystalline calcium.

                            • Pure neutral water does not contain too much calcium, which is a common problem.

                            • Alkaline ionization machines are expensive when combined with a good water filter and a hydrogen water generator (PEM), which gives better results.

                            • Alkaline water, in combination with weakly acidic neutral water, has a lower reduction potential (may act less as an antioxidant).

                            • Artificial alkaline water can be harmful in case of reduced kidney function.

                            • Your body is constantly trying to maintain a balance in the acid/base (pH) ratio, and too much of either can be harmful. Neutral or weakly acidic water does not challenge the body's buffer system.

                            • There are few scientific studies documenting the benefits of drinking alkaline water rather than pure water. It is the presence of hydrogen, and therefore a lower HR2, that explains the positive effects and the fact that the water is purified before electrolysis.

                            • It is well known that a low rH2 content in the presence of H2.

Conclusion on the comparison of ionized hydrogen water and pure hydrogen water

Recent research shows that the health benefits obtained from alkaline machines are due to the fact that the water is purified and the alkalization process contributes to a higher hydrogen content in the drinking water. This constitutes health-promoting properties.Recent research shows that the health benefits obtained from alkaline machines are due to the fact that the water is purified and the alkalization process contributes to a higher hydrogen content in the drinking water.
